water bearer...

I remember now,
How the threads of life unravel
A time ago unwrapping blessings became difficult
But I remember a love that kept me embalmed in water
And made me a water bearer.

There were times when I wished for even a fathers shadow
Days when I yearned to be yoked to my mother.
When I swam unclear waters hoping to cleanse
And I was baptised over a hundred nights
Washing in sacred tears that made the god of my grandmother weep to her knees.

I remember how to unclench my fists
I had nestled my insecurities into my core
And forgotten I had roots
But now that i see holiness in my skin
Now that my heart has grown into its own
Days of been an island are over.

we let...

sometimes, we let
our bodies
become breeding grounds
for saddness.

we do not see
all the beauty
trying to grow
within us,
around us.

more than ever...

Now more than ever do I realize that I will never be content with a sedentary life,
that I will always be haunted by thoughts of a sun-drenched elsewhere.

reminders to be kind...

i am returning to kindness
a place where I am strong in my softness.
i will start by kissing all of my scars and washing then in rain
collecting dust from long journeys off
my feet.
the way they carry weariness from crossing rivers that should have had bridges.
I will return to build crossing paths over waters that reminded me to be kind.

.

I woke up this morning
to tell you the sun has risen,
to say that the mornings
are still in bloom like fire
lilies carpeting a burnt sky.

I woke up this morning
to tell you the yellow headed
blackbirds have decorated
the pinetree outside again
and whenever they dance
they turn into the eyelets
of a large peacock tail
spread just for us.

I woke up this morning
to say that my heart still
feels empty but my soul
complete like the full moon
in a cloudless sky,

that nothing has changed
since you’ve been gone,
that the sun still rises
and the trees still spread
their wings and that my heart
is still full of stars.

I woke up this morning
to tell you I am healing,
that with every burnt sky
a new flower grows in its
place, petal by petal,

to tell you that I am full
of a song I still don’t know
the words to yet but
it is coming, and one day
I will sing it for you.

It's ok….

It's ok you know,
to be carried now and then,
strength too needs a rest.

It is hard to not feel broken
when it is always quiet enough
to hear your pieces rattle.

carrying on….

Sometimes, carrying on, just carrying on, is the superhuman achievement.

Hurry….

But hurry, let’s entwine ourselves as one,
our mouth broken, our soul bitten by love, so time discovers us safely destroyed.

Night of Sleepless Love

The night above. We two. Full moon.
I started to weep, you laughed.
Your scorn was a god, my laments
moments and doves in a chain.
The night below. We two. Crystal of pain.
You wept over great distances.
My ache was a clutch of agonies
over your sickly heart of sand.
Dawn married us on the bed,
our mouths to the frozen spout
of unstaunched blood.
The sun came through the shuttered balcony
and the coral of life opened its branches
over my shrouded heart.”

 Be a loner.
That gives you time to wonder.

forget….

Some afternoons were made for lonely walks with your past
To lead it to down a river
Drown it in broad day light
It after all doesn’t mind reminding you how broken you are every 4 a.m

I like revisiting….

I like revisiting, at certain times, spots where I was once happy;
I like to shape the present in the image of the irretrievable past.
