imitation...

It is better to fail in originality than to succeed in imitation.

Study me as much as you like...

Study me as much as you like, you will never know me, for I differ a hundred ways from what you see me to be.
Put yourself behind my eyes, and see me as I see myself, for I have chosen to dwell in a place you cannot see.

Yes:….

Yes: I am a dreamer.
For a dreamer is one who can only find his way by moonlight,
and his punishment is that he sees the dawn before the rest of the world.

My alone feels so good, I’ll only have you if you’re sweeter than my solitude.

I hide myself within my flower….

I hide myself within a flower,
That wearing on your breast,
You, unsuspecting, wear me too-
And angels know the rest.

I hide myself within my flower,
That, fading from your vase,
You unsuspecting, feel for me
Almost a loneliness.

If you were coming in fall….

If you were coming in the fall,
I ’d brush the summer by
With half a smile and half a spurn,
As housewives do a fly.

If I could see you in a year,
I'd wind the months in balls
And put them each in separate drawers,
Until their time befalls.

If only centuries delayed,
I'd count them on my hand,
Subtracting till my fingers dropped
Into Van Diemen's land.

If certain, when life was out,
That yours and mine should be,
I'd toss it yonder like a rind,
And taste eternity.

But, but now, all ignorant of the length
Of time's uncertain wing,
It goads me, like a goblin bee,
That will not state its sting.

In my secret life….

saw you this morning,
you were moving so fast.
Can’t seem to loosen my grip
On the past.
And I miss you so much,
there’s no one in sight.
And we’re still making love
In my secret life.
I smile when I am angry,
I cheat and I lie,
I do what I have to do
to get by,
In my secret life.”

Hidden language...

Dance is the hidden language of the soul."
Martha Graham, Lamination by Barbara Morgan, 1935

I have seen a performance by The Martha Graham Dance Company many years ago in Paris and it was incredible captivating and beautiful.
She was a modern dancer and choreographer whose influence on dance has been compared with the influence Picasso had on the modern visual arts, Stravinsky had on music, or Frank Lloyd Wright had on architecture. My uncle who was a modern dancer and choreographer himself has danced with and was influenced by her.

Stranger Music...

And I’ll dance with you in Vienna,
I’ll be wearing a river’s disguise.
The hyacinth wild on my shoulder
my mouth on the dew of your thighs.
And I’ll bury my soul in a scrapbook,
with the photographs there and the moss.
And I’ll yield to the flood of your beauty,
my cheap violin and my cross.”

Ah come with me...

You are tired,
(I think)
Of the always puzzle of living and doing;
And so am I.

Come with me, then,
And we'll leave it far and far away--
(Only you and I, understand)

You have played,
(I think)
And broke the toys you were fondest of,
And we are a little tired now;
Tired of things that break, and-
Just tired.
So am I.

But I come with a dream in my eyes tonight,
And I knock with a rose at the hopeless gate of your heart-
Open to me!
For I will show you the places Nobody knows,
And, if you like,
The perfect places of sleep.

Ah, come with me!

I’ll blow you that wonderful bubble, the moon,
That floats forever and a day;
I’ll sing you the jacinth song
Of the probable stars;
I will attempt the unstartled steppes of dream,
Until I find the Only Flower,
Which shall keep (I think) your little heart
While the moon comes out of the sea.
