jan mankes was called the most delicate of all dutch painters. he painted subjects from his daily surrounding + a lot of self portraits too. 'i paint or rather wish to paint paintings, silent but singing, singing indeed by their silence'. i like the subtle colours he uses.
The colours are gorgeous. I love the silence most of all - just exquisite :) K
